Happy Landings: Titan and Comet 67P
Ten years ago and also a few months ago, two great steps in European space exploration took place. On January 14th 2005 the European Huygens probe landed on the Saturnian moon, Titan, and on November 12th 2014, the Philae lander left its mother-ship, Rosetta, and touched down on the Comet Churymuov-Gerasimenko 67P.
The speaker will outline some of his personal stories from his experiences as the director at the European Space Agency with oversight of the planning and development of the missions as well as explaining the scientific significance and achievements of both missions. Moreover, he'll try to make it clear why Europe should take on such challenges in the exploration of our solar system.
