Nieuws Uit De Ruimtevaart – Week 2020/04–477

Geweldig Belgisch ruimtevaartnieuws: een onverwachte ontdekking met Rosetta en een contract voor de bouw van een nieuwe Belgische satelliet. Maar verder was het al wat Boeing dat de klok sloeg. Dat een vijftien jaar oude Boeing-satelliet in de problemen kwam, dat is wellicht aan de ouderdom te wijten. Boeing stopte echter ook plots met de ontwikkeling van Phantom Express (XS-1 of “Experimental Spaceplane” voor DARPA). En rond de vlucht van Starliner kwamen er nog wat extra vraagtekens. Maar ondanks alle problemen met de ontwikkeling van het Space Launch System en de Explorer Upper Stage lijken ze hun slag te slaan wat Maan en Mars betreft. Het Amerikaanse House Science Committee werkte een nieuw Maan/Mars-plan uit (dat nog wel gestemd moet worden). The Gateway (waar Boeing geen rol leek te spelen) hoeft niet meer. Het mag met een geïntegreerde lander (net wat Boeing voorstelde). Wat ook SLS ten goede komt. Het lijkt wel een beetje Game of Thrones: uitgeteld en toch het laken naar zich toe trekken.
