Nieuws Uit De Ruimtevaart – Week 2021/32–559

Het ISS werd altijd naar voor geschoven als een omgeving waar de Verenigde Staten, Rusland, Europa, Japan en Canada bleven samenwerken, wat er op Aarde ook mocht gebeuren. In die samenwerking beginnen zich nu barstjes te vertonen. Letterlijke en figuurlijke. Enkele jaren geleden bleek er “plots” een gat te zijn in een Soyuz-capsule. Nu beschuldigen de Russen een Amerikaanse astronaute dat ze met opzet gaten zou geboord hebben om sneller thuis te geraken. Een beschuldiging die bij de Amerikanen niet echt in goede aarde is gevallen.

De problemen met Nauka – de nieuwe Russische module voor het ISS – worden dan wel geminimaliseerd, maar Rusland heeft hier niet echt gescoord. Als klap op de vuurpijl stelde Rogozin – het hoofd van het Russische ruimtevaartagentschap – voor dat Russische experts Boeing zouden helpen bij hun problemen met Starliner. Starliner – een capsule die ooit astronauten naar het ISS moet brengen – heeft blijkbaar problemen met de kleppen in het propulsiesysteem. De lancering is nu voor onbepaalde tijd uitgesteld.
