De Maan staat in de belangstelling. Niet alleen omdat de zoveelste verjaardag van de eerste maanlanding weer dichterbij komt, maar vooral omwille van hetgeen er zich vandaag afspeelt. CAPSTONE – de eerste tastbare stap in het Artemis-programma – kende wat problemen de afgelopen dagen maar lijkt dan toch op weg naar de Maan. Deze zomer – het is hier al enkele keren gezegd – kijken we uit naar die eerste SLS/Orion-lancering én naar de eerste orbitale lancering van Starship.

Maar er is meer dan dat. Blijkbaar zijn er mensen bij NASA die vrezen dat China de Maan wil toe-eigenen. Wat in China uiteraard ontkend wordt. Het is misschien wel een bewijs dat de huidige race naar de Maan zich op een andere niveau afspeelt dan 50 à 60 jaar geleden.
