De voorbije twee weken was er heel wat nieuws te rapen rond het Internationale Ruimtestation. De Russen deden een ruimtewandeling, de bemanning mocht van zelf gekweekte sla eten, NASA bestelt twee bijkomende Cygnus-bevoorradingsvluchten terwijl Orbital ATK een tweede Atlas-lancering plant. De vernieuwde Antares blijkt wel op schema te zitten. De afgedankte Space Shuttles staan niet alleen tentoon, ze leveren ook nog steeds onderdelen voor het ISS. Er was een gerucht dat het ruimtestation vergezeld werd van een UFO. Een Progress vol met afval koppelde zich los en een Japanse vrachtcapsule werd met succes richting ISS gelanceerd. En dan zijn er nog wat losse berichten over het ruimtestation die we in een apart hoofdstukje verzameld hebben.

Maar er gebeurde uiteraard nog meer tijdens de voorbije twee weken. Zo was er nog één andere lancering, een Ariane V bracht twee communicatiesatellieten in de ruimte, terwijl men bij ESA het licht op groen zette voor de ontwikkeling van Ariane VI en Vega C. De Amerikanen deden weer een test van hun SLS-motor, terwijl voor Orion en SLS Critical Design Reviews gehouden werden.

Rosetta vergezelde komeet 67P/Churyumov–Gerasimenko terwijl deze door zijn perihelium trok. Naast mooie beelden werden nog wat wetenschappelijke resultaten bekend gemaakt. En weldra gaat men toch een knoop moeten doorhakken. Blijft men proberen Philae te contacteren of gaat men de voorrang geven aan andere observaties ? In het hoofdstuk (inter)planetaire nieuws vind je nog meer berichten over Venus, de Aarde, onze Maan, Mars, Jupiter, Saturnus en Pluto.

Verder verzamelden we een reeks berichten over Cubesats, en over allerlei ruimtevaartgebeurtenissen in China

Afronden doen we met een filmpje over 50 Jaar Marsonderzoek. In het begin van het filmpje zie je hoe de wetenschappers de eerste kleuropname nog zelf met kleurpotloden inkleurden.

ISS – Russische ramenwassers in actie.
Naast het schonen van een Zvezda-venster plaatste men op diezelfde module ook hulpmiddelen voor ruimtewandelingen, installeerde men antennes, werkte men aan een aantal experimenten en waren er nog een paar kleinere taken. Het was de eerste en enigste Russische ruimtewandeling van dit jaar.

ISS – Commercial Cargo: Orbital ATK voorziet tweede Cygnus-lancering met Atlas V. Vernieuwde Antares op schema.
Een Antares, uitgerust met aangepaste Russische NK-33-motoren, ontplofte in oktober vorig jaar. Daarbij ging de Cygnus, een bevoorradingscapsule voor het ISS, verloren. De Antares wordt nu uitgerust met andere Russische motoren. Ondertussen zal in december van dit jaar een nieuwe Cygnus gelanceerd worden met een Atlas V. Een tweede Cygnus / Atlas V-lancering wordt momenteel ook al voorzien.

Net voor de komeet door het perihelium ging, slaagde Rosetta er in om een jet te zien ontstaan.
En verder is er de vraag of men nog naar Philae moet luisteren dan wel voorrang te geven aan andere unieke observaties.
