Het ging lang goed in de Chinese ruimtevaart. Maar op korte tijd liep het tweemaal fout. Zoals deze week met de tweede lancering van een Lange Mars 5. En dat is – voor wat komen moet – niet meteen goed nieuws. Tussen haakjes, de satelliet die na de vorig fout gelopen lancering in een verkeerde baan terecht kwam, is ondertussen toch op zijn plaats aangekomen. Met een andere satelliet – de AMC 9 – gaat het niet goed. Maar wat er fout is, is niet meteen duidelijk.

Bij SpaceX doen ze ondertussen onverdroten verder. Al hadden ze drie pogingen nodig om een Intelsat-kunstmaan gelanceerd te krijgen. Ook vanuit het ISS werden er satellietjes gelanceerd.

De Lynx zou een toestel moeten worden dat toeristen kennis zou moeten laten maken met het gewichtloze, met de ruimte. Maar de firma is genoodzaakt om zowat al zijn personeel te ontslaan. In Canada kozen ze twee nieuwe astronauten, en Noord-Korea blijft zijn raketten testen.

De Europeanen stelden op hun beurt de BepiColombo voor, een sonde die over een aantal jaren op bezoek gaat bij Mercurius. En er is uiteraard meer (inter)planetair nieuws. Na nog een berichtje over de Russische Buran ronden we af met een lessenreeks, een inleiding op “rakettenkunde”.

Wat gebeurde er met de comsat AMC 9?
Wel dat is nog niet duidelijk. Het lijkt er op dat de kunstmaan in stukken uit elkaar is gevallen. Al kon men ondertussen terug contact maken.
