De toekomst van de Amerikaanse bemande ruimtevaart stond de voorbije twee weken in de belangstelling. Er was de Amerikaanse vice-president met de aankondiging dat men terug naar de Maan wil. Mooie plannen, maar voorlopig nog geen planning, geen geld. De NASA start met de Russen verkennende gesprekken rond de Deep Space Gateway nabij de Maan (gesprekken, geen planning, geen geld). Musk bracht een update van zijn kolonisatieplannen (met een wat onrealistische planning) en Lockheed Martin stelde eveneens een update voor van zijn Mars Base Camp ideeën.

En er was nog veel meer de voorbije twee weken, met drie gelukte lanceringen en twee uitgestelde lanceringen. De ISS-astronauten deden een eerste van drie ruimtewandelingen. En wellicht blijft de opblaasbare Bigelow-module langer aan het ISS.

Dawn viert zijn tiende verjaardag, Rosetta zorgde voor een nog late verrassing en OSIRIS-REx vloog voorbij de Aarde.

En afronden doen we met een uitgebreide terugblik op de dag dat het 60 jaar geleden allemaal begon, de lancering van Sputnik 1.

Amerika wil weer terug naar de Maan.
De terugkeer naar de Maan werd aangekondigd op de eerste bijeenkomst van de pas (her)opgerichte National Space Council.

Het slechte weer is spelbreker. Twee lanceringen uitgesteld. Een derde is in voorbereiding.
Twee Falcon-lanceringen staan op het programma. Een eerste op het KSC had last van slecht weer en moest uitgesteld worden. Een tweede vanop Vandenberg AFB kent voorlopig wel een ongestoorde voorbereiding. Beide raketten ondergingen met succes een statische motortest.
