Toen enige tijd geleden een Proton-raket kort na lift-off dacht dat ze ondersteboven vloog, resulteerde dat in een van de spectaculairste ontploffingen. Deze week dacht een Fregat Upper Stage (naar alle waarschijnlijkheid) dat ze in de verkeerde richting vloog. Niet zo spectaculair als de vermelde Proton, maar met dezelfde gevolgen. Een mislukte lancering. En opnieuw geen goede reclame voor de Russen. Ook al lanceerden ze kort daarna met succes opnieuw een Soyuz-raket.

Verder blikken we vooruit op heel wat lanceringen deze maand en begin volgend jaar. Met info over Iridium en de Arkyd 6 en veel meer. Er zijn ook een aantal SpaceX-lanceringen. Musk maakte nog wat extra reclame voor de Falcon Heavy door te vertellen dat hij een Tesla ging lanceren ! Eerst zien en dan geloven ? We kijken voor Europa ook wat verder in de toekomst, met Ariane 6, Vega E en de Space Rider.

Er is een hele brok nieuws over het Internationale Ruimtestation. Kwamen die microbes nu echt uit de ruimte? En uiteraard is er ook deze week weer heel wat nieuws te rapen over Commercial Crew, over SLS en Orion (gaat NASA een nieuwe lanceertoren bouwen), over de Deep Space Gateway alsook over de Maan. En nu de 50ste verjaardag van de eerste maanlanding begint te naderen, krijg je vanaf nu regelmatig een terugblik op het Apollo-programma.

Deze week ook een verzameling artikels over het groeiende probleem van ruimteafval. Ook rond de Aarde draait sinds kort de Sentinel 5 en de eerste resultaten werden onlangs gepresenteerd. En Voyager 1 verraste iedereen met stuurraketjes te gebruiken die al 37 niet meer gewerkt hadden. En uiterraard is er veel meer nieuws uit de (inter)planetaire ruimte. Alsook van allerlei wetenschappelijke satellieten, zoals JWST en WFIRST, twee toekomstige ruimtetelescopen, maar ook van de eigenaardige waarnemingen door de Chinezen tijdens hun zoektocht naar donkere materie.

Na nog wat info over On-Orbit Satellite Servicing ronden we af met een firma waarvan de grote baas beschuldigd wordt van fraude. En er is mogelijk een link met de neergestorte Marslander van ESA.

Tweede Vostochny-lancering loopt fout af. Fregat vuurde in de verkeerde richting.
