Nieuws Uit De Ruimtevaart – Week 2018/04 – 376

Extasie, verrassingen, tegenslagen en verjaardagen. Het werd weer een interessante ruimtevaartweek.

Terwijl China al met succes dit jaar een vijfde lancering uitvoerde, kende Ariane V een mindere lancering. De twee gelanceerde satellieten zullen uiteindelijk wel op hun geostationaire plaatsje geraken, maar de raket zelf leverde maar half werk af door ze in eerste instantie in een verkeerde baan af te zetten. Problemen met een Ariane V, het was alweer een hele tijd geleden.

De tweede lancering van een Electron-raket vorige week bleek uiteindelijk nog een aantal verrassingen te bevatten, zoals o.a. een  “discobol” die in een baan om de Aarde werd gebracht. En dat was niet meteen tot groot jolijt van de sterrenkundigen.

De eerste test van een Ariane VI-motor werd een beetje in de schaduw gesteld door de allereerste statische test van een Falcon Heavy. Een heel spektakel, al zal op 6 februari nog meer volk uitkijken naar de maiden trip van de grootste raket van dit moment.

Ondertussen gaan er geruchten rond dat de Trump-administratie met het ISS wil stoppen in 2025, ten voordele van de plannen rond de maan. En de installatie van een nieuwe robotarm-hand ging niet van een leien dakje. Mogelijk wordt maandag de oude “hand” terug geïnstalleerd.

Veel verjaardagen ook, met bijvoorbeeld 20 jaar astronauten in China. Maar er is ook de 60ste verjaardag van de eerste Amerikaanse satelliet, alsook de 15de verjaardag van het ongeluk met Columbia. En in kader van 50 jaar Apollo blikken we ook terug op o.a. Apollo 1 (de brand waarbij 3 astronauten het leven lieten).

Ondertussen werd ook de Google Lunar X Prize afgesloten. Zonder winnaars.
