Meer dan honderdduizend kijklustigen kwamen opdagen om de allereerste lancering van een Falcon Heavy in het echt mee te maken. Een veelvoud zat wellicht aan het scherm gekluisterd om het nieuwe paradepaardje van SpaceX aan het werk te zien. En het werd een schitterende lancering. Met een onvergetelijk beeld van twee boosters die zowat simultaan terug “poot” aan grond zouden zetten. En met een fantastisch beeld van Starman al cruisend in zijn Tesla met op de achtergrond onze eigenste aardbol.

Een beetje spijtig voor het Europese ruimtevaartagentschap. Want net deze week vierden ze de tiende verjaardag van ESA’s bijdrage aan het ISS. Tien jaar Columbus, tien jaar ATV.

En bij Sierra Nevada Company kregen ze van de NASA het licht op groen om een Dream Chaser naar het ISS te sturen. Mits uiteraard het toestel eerst nog gelanceerd geraakt.
