Nieuws Uit De Ruimtevaart – Week 2019/36–456

Na de Israëlische Beresheet liep het nu ook fout met de Indische Vikram. Twee pogingen om zacht op de Maan te landen die fout afliepen. Maar deze week kwamen wel meer mislukkingen aan bod. Zoals de fout afgelopen Europese Vega-lancering, waarvan ESA en Arianespace de fout lijkt gevonden te hebben. Zoals de fout afgelopen Iraanse lancering, wat vooral in Amerika voor heibel zorgde. Zoals de bijna-botsing tussen satellieten van ESA en SpaceX. Dat en nog veel meer in het Nieuws Uit De Ruimtevaart van deze week.

Bij de foto: De lancering, de reis en de voorbereiding op de aankomst was zo goed als perfect verlopen. Maar een 2 km boven het oppervlak was het plots gedaan. Het was dan ook een heel stil moment toen K. Sivan, hoofd van het Indian Space Research Organisation, kwam melden dat de landing van Vikram fout was afgelopen.

“This is Mission Control Centre. #VikramLander descent was as planned and normal performance was observed up to an altitude of 2.1 km. Subsequently, communication from Lander to the ground stations was lost. Data is being analyzed.” Dat was hetgeen ISRO (de Indische Organisatie voor Ruimte Onderzoek) de wereld instuurde een tijdje nadat het bij iedereen duidelijk was dat de eerste Indische poging om een sonde op de Maan te zetten fout was afgelopen. Wat volgt zijn de gebeurtenissen van deze week:

Eerder arriveerde de sonde in een baan om de Maan. De volgende stap bestond er in om eerst de baan in orde te krijgen ….
