Voor de astronauten in het ruimtestation werd het geen rustige week. Vooreerst werd de bemanning terug op 6 man gebracht, met de aankomst van een twee dagen eerder gelanceerde Soyuz. Tussendoor werd een Dragon met de robotarm opgepikt en aan het ruimtestation gekoppeld. Een Cygnus die al enige tijd los was van het ISS dook nu de atmosfeer in en verbrandde. En gezien de tijd van het jaar was het ook tijd om kerstherinneringen op te halen.

Rocket Lab stelde na een week sukkelen zijn tweede testlancering uit tot volgend jaar. Japan lanceerde wel, net als SpaceX (tien Iridiums in één keer) en China. En de eerste lancering van een Falcon Heavy begint er nu wel echt aan te komen. Musk verspreidde foto’s van de raket én de “nuttige” lading, met name een rode Tesla.

Ook in deze NUDR weer heel wat nieuwtjes over de nieuwe industrieën, zoals Stratolaunch, Virgin Galactic, Blue Origin en World View.

Deze periode is het trouwens 49 jaar geleden dat de laatste bemande vlucht naar de maan plaats had. En het Europese Thales Alenia lijkt goed vertegenwoordigd te zijn in de verschillende voorstellen voor NASA’s Deep Space Gateway.
