Abstract

Total Solar Eclipses are an amazing and beautiful phenomenon but also result in psychological and physiological stress than can cause short and long lasting effects. In this session I will use my personal journey to explore the psychological and physiological effects of total solar eclipses and why they are so profoundly affecting.

Bio

Sarah is from Birmingham UK where she lives with her partner and two teenage kids. She is a General Practitioner (Family Medicine) doctor with a special interest  in mental health. Her first total solar eclipse was in 1999 in France, when she was totally clouded out. That experience made her certain she needed to experience totality in full and led to her becoming a confirmed umbraphile. She has been incredibly lucky to see 6 further eclipses since then including 2 in the USA, Zimbabwe, Libya, China and Svalbard. She is fascinated by the human experience of eclipses and is keen to share that you don’t need to be an astronomer or a physicist to experience the joy of this marvel of nature!
