Solar Eclipse Conference 13-15 June 2025, Leuven, Belgium

The aim of the Solar Eclipse Conference (SEC) is to bring together all eclipse enthusiasts, amateur and professional, from around the world to share our common passion for solar eclipses.  The exchange of information will take place during 2 days of lectures by experts in their field. The SEC2025 will be informal and will take place in a pleasant environment in the heart of the historic university city of Leuven, Belgium. During the SEC there will be ample opportunity for peer-to-peer and expert discussions during coffee breaks, at the conference dinner, or simply outside the conference during leisure time. It is an excellent opportunity to build eclipse networks.

A Solar Eclipse Conference has been organised since 2000 and takes place in a year without a central solar eclipse.

SEC2025 will take place from Friday 13-June to Sunday 15-June 2025 and will be hosted by KU Leuven at Auditorium Jean Monnet, Parkstraat 51, Leuven, Belgium.

Leuven and the University of Leuven

Leuven is the capital of the province of Flanders-Brabant in the Flemish region of Belgium. The city is located in the centre of Belgium, about 30 km east of Brussels. The city has a long history, with the earliest records dating back to 891, when the Vikings were defeated at the Battle of Leuven on the River Dyle. From the 11th to the 14th century, the city was the most important trading centre in the Duchy of Brabant. The 15th century brought a new golden age and the University of Leuven (KU Leuven), the largest in the Low Countries, was founded in 1425. Today's Leuven is renowned for its vibrant academic atmosphere. Leuven's global reputation is also based on its significant contribution to beer culture as the birthplace of Stella Artois. Combining the charm of a medieval town with the energy of a modern university city, Leuven offers a blend of historical exploration, cultural immersion and academic ambience, making it an attractive destination for those seeking both educational and recreational experiences. 

In 2025, KU Leuven will celebrate its 600th anniversary.  To mark the occasion, Leuven will be hosting a number of events throughout the year.
